Independence Day Fun

 Her personal chariot.

This is marital lack of communication at its best.  I told Jace that CarmelFest was at Rangeline/City Center Drive.  He said ok and picked a parking spot.  I (for once in our relationship) kept my mouth shut as he picked a parking spot a good distance away in the Arts District.  I assumed he knew what he was doing.  In reality, he didn't and we were a mile away from our destination with a miniature person who's feet were hurting the minute they hit the pavement.  Result: she received a shoulder ride down the Monon trail.  It was a mile each way.  Moral of this story....never keep my mouth shut again.

Finally...at 11:00...she gives in.  She slept until 11:15 the next morning!

Merrimac Bike Parade

Merrimac has an annual 4th of July bike parade for the kids.  The kids all decorate their bikes and a Westfield fire truck leads them around the neighborhood.  Greta's awesome babsitters, Keely and Erin, helped her decorate her bike while Mom and Dad were out for a birthday dinner.  They did a great job! I took care of making sure the cyclist was looking cute-as-ever in her Independence Day romper.

After the parade, the bikes were judged and three bikes were presented with prizes.  There were about 50 bikes in the contest...Greta was not a winner.  Greta was not happy about this.  I walked over to her and she was sitting on her bike with her head down.  And with her most pitiful face she said "I didn't win."  I explained that there were a lot of kids and the judges could only pick three.  Her response, "but my bike was the best?"  Maybe next year, Greta :)

After the parade, the kids explored the fire truck and ambulance.  She loved the ambulance and we had a hard time getting her out.  She was talking the ear off the paramedic inside.
Heading for the start line.  We were expecting a leisurely walk alongside our biker.  However, Greta must have thought it was a bike race, not a parade.  My pokey little biker, who can never keep up with me on our walks, was leading the parade with the big kids.  When we realized we were losing sight of her, Jace started jogging.  He still couldn't catch her.  Mimi and Papa's car picked us up and we made our way back to the clubhouse (start line) and caught her as she was finishing up.  Next year we will be more prepared for her Tour de France speed.

The cousins transformed Greta's rocketship into a car while we were at dinner.
I love the rules below (especially #5).
